
The Employee Giving Program provides thousands of ways to make a difference all through one program. During the Annual Giving Drive, King County employes have access to a wide breadth of different causes. We have spotlighted a number or organizations below that represent this diversity of causes and missions. View them all here.
#11. October is Flood Awareness Month in King County and it is important to raise awareness and prepare for disaster resilience, including flooding, which is the most common natural disaster in King County. The Pacific Northwest is a captivating tapestry of nature’s wonders, where lush forests, majestic mountains, and serene waters converge to create a breathtaking landscape. We are lucky to live and work here and experience the wonders of nature. There are many nonprofit organizations that are committed to keeping our regions natural ecosystems healthy and thriving. We have highlighted a few here:
- VashonBePrepared, Agency Number 10057: “An all-volunteer nonprofit coalition of disaster preparedness and community resilience organizations on Vashon-Maury Islands in Washington’s Puget Sound region.”

- Climate Action Families, Agency Number 10178: “Empowering an intergenerational climate justice movement of youth, families, and friends building collective power to protect the people and planet we love at the speed and scale of transformation that climate science and justice require.” Watch this video to learn more.

- The Nature Conservancy, 2542: “The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.” Watch this video to learn more.
#12. October also includes Domestic Violence Awareness Month where domestic violence and its victims are observed. Domestic violence occurs about every 15 seconds in the U.S. This month is crucial to raise awareness and bring support and strength to domestic violence victims. It also helps connect and unify the millions of affected victims. So many people are affected by domestic violence and there are many organizations that are working to provide support and solutions. A few of them include:
- Crisis Connections, Agency Number 9253: “Telephone & online support services for adults & youth in crisis; offering emotional support, crisis intervention, suicide prevention & connections to community resources.”
- Northwest Justice Project, Agency Number 9739: “Northwest Justice Project (NJP) provides free legal assistance to address fundamental human needs such as housing, family safety, income security, health care, education, and more. Our work challenges structural and racial inequities to promote the long-term well-being of low-income individuals, families and communities across Washington State.”
- Coalition Ending Gender-Based Violence, Agency Number 9649: “We work with and for over 40 member agencies and organizations in King County to increase our community’s capacity to prevent and respond to sexual and domestic violence.”
#13. LGBTQ+ History Month is observed in October and is dedicated to recognizing and honoring the contributions, struggles, and achievements of the LGBTQIA+ community. It is a platform for raising awareness about the history and celebrate the diverse culture and heritage of the LGBTQ+ community. This month provides an opportunity to learn about the historical milestones and figures with the LGBTQ+ movement and is a call to action for the ongoing fight for equal rights. There are a variety of LGBTQ+ organizations in the Employee Giving Program. A few organizations are:
- Lavender Rights Project, Agency Number 10947: “Elevating the power, autonomy, and leadership of the Black intersex & gender diverse community through intersectional legal and social services.” Watch this video to learn more.

- UTOPIA, Agency Number 10951: “We are working to create a world of cultural wealth, dignity, healing, and liberation for Queer and Transgender Pacific Islanders that honors our ancestors and future generations.”

- Seattle’s LGBTQ+ Center, Agency Number 9216: “We are the definitive hub for LGBTQ+ individuals in King County seeking affirming and responsive resources, wellness, and community.”
