35 years of giving + 35 reasons to give

The 2023 Employee Giving Program’s Annual Giving Drive is now underway, which runs from October 2 through November 17, 2023. This year is the 35th Anniversary of the Annual Giving Drive so we will be sharing 35 reasons to give throughout the drive.

October is National Substance Use Awareness Month so one of the 35 of the reasons to participate in the EGP is to support organizations that are doing work in this area. A few organizations include:

  • Battlefield Addiction, Agency Number 9901: “We begin with the most powerful connection of all, family, to fight addiction strategically and effectively. We believe this Family First approach is essential to end addiction.”
  • Consejo Counseling and Referral Service, Agency Number 9404: “Providing behavioral health, substance abuse and domestic violence services to the Latino Community who represents the largest growing community in the country.”
  • Evergreen Treatment Services, Agency Number 9350: “Provides substance use treatment and homeless outreach services to over 8,000 people in western Washington.”

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month so reason number two of 35 to participate is to support organizations that are doing work in this specific area. A few organizations include:

  • Cierra Sisters for Breast Cancer Awareness, Agency Number 9505: ““Our mission to “break the cycle of fear,” and increase knowledge concerning breast cancer in the African-American and the underserved communities, together we can make a change.”
  • Breast Cancer Coalition, Agency Number 5005: “We are dedicated to ending breast cancer through the power of grassroots action and advocacy.”
  • Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Inc., Agency Number 4158: “We are committed to achieving prevention and a cure for breast cancer by advancing the world’s most promising research.”

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is coming up on October 9, hence reason number three of 35 is to support the amazing organizations that are doing work in this area. A few organizations include:

  • Chief Seattle Club, Agency Number 9443: “We are dedicated to physically and spiritually supporting urban American Indian and Alaska Native people.”
  • Innovations HTC, Agency Number 10805: “Indigenous survivor-led org engaging stakeholders in innovative solutions to eliminate human trafficking & empowering survivors to heal & build self-sufficient, affirming lives.”
  • Mother Nation, Agency Number 9903: “Offers culturally informed healing services, advocacy, mentorship and homeless prevention services to support the success of Native American women and families.”

There are many reasons to give, so much more than 35, and we know there are myriad of causes that King County employees are passionate about. We are looking forward to sharing more stories and nonprofits that are part of the EGP. Together we can make a difference and support nonprofit organizations that help our communities flourish throughout King County and beyond.

You can find more nonprofit organizations doing work in these areas in the 2023 King County EGP Nonprofit Giving Guide.

  1. How can I make sure that my donations are received by the designated Non-profit group. For the past three years It has been difficult to confirm if the FAME Community and Cultural Center received my donation. Thanks
